Downloading windows updates

I am trying to get rid of the blaster virus from my
computer, one of the advised steps is to download the
latest updates from the Windows Updates site. The
download failed, something to do with my server, but the
server was still connected. It told me to go back to the
Update site and click on "Problems downloading the
Service pack" but I can't find it.
Can anyone help? I need the "computers for dummies"
explanation.
