Downloading same emails to 2 different computers

Since I began using Outlook again in the 2007 Office beta, my solution to
keep messages on the server for couple days so that the same messages will
download to both my desktop and my laptop is causing the same emails to
download into Outlook every time I close and reopen Outlook. I was using OE
before this and did not have this duplicate download problem but I am really
liking Outlook again, if a workaround can be found.

Would someone know how I can accomplish the same thing (download emails to
both PCs) without 'leaving copy on server' option?

TIA for ANY ideas!!! katy

Hi Katie,

If you want to access your email from two computers, the best thing you
can do is to check whether your ISP offers IMAP support. That protocol
is designed for exactly that purpose.
Did you install Outlook fresh and made a new profile for 2007?

Thanks Patrick, my ISP is charter email, I can check. My Outlook installed
with the Office 2007 beta I downloaded, there was no Outlook installed
before the beta on this laptop. I do believe the profile was new, it just
imported info from OE when Outlook was first opened. At first the Outlook
on this laptop was experiencing 'errors' that Microsoft requested Send or
Don't Send report but I sent about 3 reports. Then ran the Office repair
and Outlook repair, Office found one fix, but the duplicates are still
happening.

The duplicate downloading doesn't happen on my desktop however (same
Outlook/Office 2007 beta, same leave copy on server), just on this laptop.
One difference is that this laptop also has my gmail downloading, through a
seperate account I set up on the laptop to retrieve the gmail messages.
Could another POP mail setup be causing this? even though the duplicates are
from my charter account where I have left a copy on server?

Hi Katie,

You are not the only who is experiencing duplicate download issues. Can
you try to make a new profile via Control Panel, Mail? Add to it both
your charter and see what happens. If you don't get the duplicates, add
the google account and see if you get duplicates then.
I looked at the charter website and it looks like they only offer POP.

Are these two PCs sharing a network?

Yes, the desktop has the charter cable box with RJ45 cables from PC to box &
then to the router. then wireless from router to laptop.

I have now created a new profile Outlook II and am using that (of course
none of my emails are in it), one new email downloaded as that is all that
is left on the server at charter. Maybe the server saves a 'copy' and when
all those duplicates came down, it ran out of copies. Anyway, I can see
what happens tomorrow night, if it's the same thing or not. Then I can try
adding the google mail.

How can I get my other messages (as duplicated as they are) into this
profile?

Thanks!!
katie

Open the other PST file (File, Open, Outlook Data File) and copy the
items over. You can find out where your other pst file is located by
going into Control Panel, Mail, Profiles, select the profile name,
Properties, Data Files.
Do NOT use the Import functionality.

But you can put them in it by including your existing PST in that profile.
Either use the Data Files button in Control Panel's Mail applet or use
Outlook's account or data file management.

Thanks Patrick & Brian! I decided to stay with the new profile and the old
is still in Outlook below the new so it's available if I want it. It seems
that the new profile is working better; after tweaking the gmail settings
and the configurations in Outlook and testing several times, I think it's
finally setup to download to both PCs with leaving a copy on the server set
in both Outlook and Gmail and not getting duplicates doing it.
Thanks for helping me!!!
