Downloading images

When downloading images, how do I set the default so that
they are downloaded as jpeg's and not bmp's? Right now,
90% of the time images are automatically saved as bmp's.
And, for reasons I cannot explain, sometimes they are
downloaded as jpeg's bearing the original image name. I
strongly prefer jpeg's.

The usual fix is to clear your cache.
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Delete Files (in the TIF section)

That seems to work about 98% of the time but if it doesn't, close IE
and reopen and do it again. Also it has been reported that clear
cookies helps, but ensure you save any that you need.

If the above fails, then try here:

An image can only be changed by an image editing program, such as Adobe's
Photoshop. The browser will not do it.
A jpg is a jpg and a bmp is a bmp.
