downloading from email

Since purchasing a new computer with Windows Vista I am unable to open
attachments of any kind from my Yahoo email account. I click on the link, a
box opens asking if I want to save or open--doesn't matter which I choose--it
acts like it's working, then nothing happens. No error message appears, but
there is a "ding!" when the item should have opened, but didn't. I am
frustrated beyond frustrated and can't seem to find any help anywhere. Augh!
Can anyone help? Thanks!
