downloading a file

I have a jpg file that I want folks to download if they click on it. The
problem is this. If that person has an application installed to view jpg
files (as most do), the file will open and display. I know I can create a
zip file, but some people don't know how to unzip (unbelivevable as it
seems) files.

Is there anyway to force the jpg file to download?

No.

Yes, there is. You don't want to know, however. The explanation will
likely hurt your brain, and mine. It involves forcing mime types and all
that kind of geeky gobbledygook.

So - Steve's answer is the practical one.

You're right.
Forcing / editing mime types hurts your brain, and ultimately your web site.

If you did that though, what effect would it have on your normal jpgs that you wanted to display rather than download? It sounds painful.
