downloader.GK virus

OK first of all...I don't have a virus detector of any sort on my computer, yes I know thats stupid. I went online today and ran one of those free virus scans and it came up with me having three infected files containing the downloader.GK virus. I followed the steps to remove it however it didn't work. I was told to turn of system restore and then to go back and reactivate it and run the scan again. The virus is still showing..any answers?

I have the exact same problem were panda is picking up the virus but not disinfecting it, i have followed all instructions to remove it including the 'system restore' as i am running xp but with no joy! does anyone out there have a clue as to how to get rid of this thing!!!!!

I believe you might not understand the nature of System Restore. When your
computer creates a restore point in essence it creates a snapshot of all
files. What is happening I believe is the virus scan is detecting the virus
in the restore folder which Windows hides away and cannot be messed with.
You should be okay.
