Windows did not start normally or that there may have been a power failure or
a updated software may have caused this issue. That I have options to
restart and one of them is to go back to a known good configureation. Safe
mode etc.

I cannot get past this page! It just keeps reloading the same page over and
over again.
My computer was recently restored to factory settings and I did not need to
back up anything. I got the update service pack from the Microsoft website.
What do I need to do now? Why wont this work. I had another issue before
with one of Windows updated that royally screwed up my computer. I problems
and restored it but did not do a destructive. I am, so tired of this! I had
just put on Office Home and Student today too and can't use my computer now!
Help!

As soon as XP was installed, the update to Service Pack 3 should have
immediately followed. Only then would you think of adding other software.

Did you *religiously* follow:

The devil is in the details...

This might be your best choice:

The computer CAME W/ Xp SP2 its several years old

I had to restore my computer to factory settings.
The only things on there are what came preloaded and a virus program. I then
added Office Student.

After this was installed it asked about checking for UPDATES. I thought okay
why not? So while there I saw that there was a Service pack 3. I thought it
would be a good improvement and so I downloaded from the Microsoft website.
All seemed to be fine UNTIL it said to restart it said the install was
complete and everything went fine.
The OFFICE WAS PRIOR. I had no idea I would be updating to SERVICE PACK OR
Anything.
Any of those options you suggested make more sense now that I may have
explained better?

NO,I didn't know about that page. :( Also the only thing I know I did not
do that I read some place was to disable the virus program. Do you think
this is the biggest culprit? I think my system can support the SP3 but I
didn't know to do this.

so if I set my computer back to the restore point I created yesterday BEFORE
I updated to SP3 will all the
downloaded SP3 stuff be gone from my computer and if I were to tread in that
direction again.. I would need to download it all over again? I will not
have the download laying dormant in my systemt some where will I? (I know
sounds computer illiterate)

will check back later for a response hopefully I can get my computer back
working.
thanks for any and all help!

Since we don't know what antimalware applications the system is
running, we must observe every rule laid down by Microsoft.

In the absence of more factual information, I can't answer. However,
it's worth a try.

This above is worth repeating...

Researching "Service Pack 3 Installation Trouble", through Google,
might yield even more bumps in the road.

Best wishes to you.
