downloaded installations

I'm running WinXP SP2. In my c:\windows directory, I have a folder named downloaded installations. This is a hidden folder. Can I delete this, or is the info in this folder needed for repair, uninstall and so on?

It's a Windows XP system folder....it cannot be deleted.
