Downloaded files are all corrupted

I recently installed XP with no SP.
Then found all files that are .exe (they are installer) are corrupted
whenever I tried to run it.
These files are from different websites so the problem of the files are
eliminated, this should be my XP problem.
Any hints?

How do you know they are corrupted? Are there any particular error
messages you have seen? Can you successfully run executables that aren't
installers?

Why haven't you installed SP2 with all the subsequent hotfixes?

Did you perform a clean or repair install?

My best hint would be to start over again (format and reinstall.) If you
went online, with no Service Pack, you are MOST DEFINITELY infected with
something. The ONLY way you would even have a fighting chance is if that
computer is hiding from the outside world behind a router.

Beyond the above, I have no other ideas based on your description.
Elaborate a little more, and maybe someone can help you further...

If you have access to another computer, download the SP2 "offline" install.
Burn it to a CD, or put it on a flash drive. Remove your internet
connection from the problem system, and try installing that way. If that
doesn't work, format and reinstall. Make sure that you are not connected to
the internet, and then install SP2 from the previously downloaded file (off
the other computer) that are on your flash drive or CD.

You do NOT want a 'naked' copy of Win XP anywhere near the internet, ever!
It is capable of being compromised in a matter of minutes!

Offline install file:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en

It's 266Mb, so it's not small by any means... Don't worry about the fact
that it says it's for multiple systems, and IT Professionals, just run it,
and it will install SP2...

I used my Vista machine to download the XP SP2 and will use that to see if I
can install SP2 tonight.
Will let you know then.

I just installed the SP2 from a CD.
Now just tried to download the AVG free edition and run the setup. Got the
similar error got the error from AVG
CRC failed in files.dat
CRC failed in setup.dat
CRC failed in trialkey.dat
CRC failed in setupus.lns

Does it related to the Windows firewall?
