One problem
- it doesn't find/recognize my Epson 1660 scanner.

I have been running
vuescan since Oct 2002. I reverted back to 7.6.74 and that version works,
finds the epson scanner and works beautifully with it.

Anybody have
any ideas why 7.6.78 doesn't find the scanner when 7.6.74 (and all previous
versions I have used) find the scanner and work well with it.

What changed
from 7.6.74???

Terry,

No, I have no idea, but I and (at least) 2 other users, experienced the
same problem. See my post from Feb 13 in this newsgroup.

Unload the scanner.o module and set up libusb to access the scanner.

The problem you're seeing is that if VueScan sees that libusb
is available on the system, it won't try to access scanners using
scanner.o.

Firts of all. Yes, when activating libusb, everything works great again
for me!!

But, it would be great if this VERY important information for Linux
users is included in the Linux release notes. According the information
on the website it seems as you have the OPTION to use libusb, but that
you still could user the scanner.o module:

"If you're using libusb to access a USB scanner, you need to make sure
the protections in /proc/bus/usb are set up properly. There's some
information about setting up libusb on Linux.

To use the scanner.o module on Linux, you need to load the scanner
driver and specify the vendor ID and product ID of the scanner. For
instance, to recognize the Canon N670U, use "modprobe scanner
vendor=0x04a9 product=0x220d". Then type "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" and
make sure "Driver=usbscanner" is enabled for your scanner."

This second paragraph is no longer true as I have learned now. It would
save time and frustation among the users,if the release notes and the
short information describing the different versions, include such
essential information.

Because of this second paragraph, I thought something else was wrong.

A second comment I have, is the non-functional print option in Linux
(has never worked). I had hoped that, because the latest version is made
for Red Hat9, which I run, this would be fixed too. Perhaps this still
can be fixed??

Same for me with a Canon LiDE 30. Happily it runs very fine with sane
1.0.13 now...
