Hi,
I just formatted my computer but i'm not able to download xp in
DOS....please i need help can somebody explain me how to do??

Hi,

To start the installer while using a boot floppy, you need to run the
winnt.exe file in the I386 folder on the CD. Running setup.exe on the root
will not work.

The XP CD has all you need to create, delete and format a system / boot
partition as NTFS for the C: drive.

Simply change the bios setting to BOOT FIRST from the CD-ROM.
There will be a message during post of the biso screen that says If you want
to boot from CD press any key.

It flys by quick so pay attention.
Press the eneter key and the XP CD will start read and install a startup
system in memory.

Read each screen carefully, it not the greatest wording.
Basically, delete the partitons you have on the disk.
Creat a new partition (leave some space for a second partition to format in
windows.
You 16 GB or up 32 GB depending on the disk size.
Just don't make it hugh.

Format with NTFS file system with 4K cluster to get the most security and
realiabilty form XP.

After the format, XP will start installing.

If this is an upgrade, it will as for you qualifing full version of the
older Windows, like 98 or me. Just switch the CD's as directed.

When you get to the screen for an ADMINISTRATOR password, enter on at least
6 characters long, white it down on paper twice, hide one copy, and put the
other in a safe palce next to ytou computer area.

When you get the screen the asks for the user names, enter your name for you
use. You can assign a password later if you wish.

It will take about 45 min to an hour to install.

By "download", do you mean "install"?

If so, the XP CD is bootable. (This assumes that you have a Microsoft XP CD;
things may be different if you have a PC manufacturer's restore CD.) I
believe that you can't install XP from DOS.

Change your BIOS setup to boot from the CD drive first.

You could have partitioned and formatted the drive using the CD. You may
still want to format the partition onto which you wish to install XP as
NTFS, rather than FAT32. I don't understand the particulars, but NTFS is
supposed to be more reliable. (The only limitation I know of the formatting
utility on the CD is that it won't format a partition as FAT32 larger than
32 GB. I wanted one of my three partitions as FAT32, so I used a third-party
utility to format that one.)

In the unlikely event that your machine does not support a bootable CD, you
can create a set of six floppies to perform the XP installation:

"How to obtain Windows XP Setup boot disks"

I have installed XP on a few different mainboards, the oldest of which was a
440BX (PIII) based one. All of them supported booting from the CD drive.

Good luck.

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Simply boot from the WinXP installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)
