download problems

I have a sony dsc-p7 digital camera. Whenever I take
pictures - they look fine on camera - but not once
downloaded to my computer. Specifically, the pictures
have horizontal lines running through them that make the
picture unaligned and slightly different shades in
different areas. Sony says it might be an xp
compatibility issue. Any suggestions?
