Download probelms, nothing works, Gurus,please help!

Hi,
My PC runs Windows XP Home edition. I have the following problems:

1. Can't download ANYTHING, ( Windows Updates, any specifc Anti-Virus
patches, any programs from 3rd party vendors, such as anti- spy ware,
including Microsoft's own beta , Yahoo or Google tool bars with anti spyware
etc.). When I click on Download, nothing happens and NO error messages of any
kind appear, but the download doesn't proceed.)
2. The automatic downloads from WIndows, as well as Live Updates from Nortn
etc., work; but I can't manually download anything. that is how I was able to
install Service Pack 2.
3. Cannot print from Internet Explorer. Basically, I have to cut and paste
and print from MS Word.
4. Cannot update or add on to my Favorites folder.
5. Extremely frustrated becasuse I can't download any anti spy ware, my PC
is running amuck with pop-ups and adware. Please help!

All trouble started about 2 months back, when my PC froze and by accident, I
powered the PC on, instead of the reset/reboot button. Initally got the
WIndows32 dll file missing, but was able to "copy it" from my laptop.

Please help! Are my options limited to reloading Windows XP (have lots of
work related stuff programs that I am not able to back up) or is ther
anything else I can do? My priority is to get anti spyware program installed.

there is no file in windows named windows32.dll. although there is a
reference on many AV sites to it as part of a trojan package.

i think that if you wouldn't have copied that file from the laptop to the
desktop, this wouldn't have happened.

one thing to try is to re-start in 'safe-mode with networking support' if
the direct links given in another response don't work.
