I have installed both DLExpert and Star Downloader. I have been using both, but
I can't decide which one is better.
Has anyone discovered that one of them is faster or more accurate than the
other?

Great that you have an opinion, but _WHY_ do you prefer a particular
dl mngr over others, and over _WHICH_ others?

(Not intended in any way to denigrate Bebop who regularly contributes
helpful information. Just luck of the draw. Few of the posts in this
large thread (200+ messages in google archive) address a particular
reason or provide more than a yea/nay. There are several other
threads with a similar paucity of detail.)

I recognize that just the fact that one has used a particular program
successfully for some time in a particular configuration is useful
information, but often even that information is not provided.

Similarly, if one used to use xyz and switched to abc, that is useful,
but much more useful if we have some idea of _why_ and how long ago or
which version so we can determine if that is still a valid
differentiator.

Also thanks to those who ask for help and then update the post with
why a particular recommendation was chosen.

End of rant.

I have been using DLExpert for ages on Win98. After I set up a
dual-boot 98/2k system, I decided to experiment on the 2k side. The
main thing I wished for was better handling of redirects etc, since
DLExpert could not cope with all links. I tried Star Downloader, as
it ranks high on Pricelessware. Nice interface, good features. I
liked it at first. HOWEVER, after perhaps a month, I noticed
something worrying: About 10% of the downloads were corrupt. I mean
files that were OK on the server side, because they downloaded fine
using either DLExpert or Wget. This is a big concern for me (ISDN
64), especially if the files are large. Moreover, it handled
redirects worse than DLExpert: Whenever there was such a link, it just
couldn't find the file. Uninstalled it. This seemed to go smoothly,
ie I didn't find many leftover registry entries and such.

Now, I asked about the corrupt files problem. 1 person had the same
experience, but there were no other answers. Once more: CAN ANYONE
CORROBORATE IT? Of all the people using this program extensively, has
anyone else had the same experience? A different one? Please answer.

I went ahead with Download Express. This one handles redirects
expertly and has no bad downloads problem that I can see. On the
other hand, its interface is terrible IMHO and I don't know if it
uninstalls cleanly. Oh, well...

I haven't tried LeechGet.
