All folders open search dialogue when duble clicked.
Right click > 'open' opens system restore dialogue.
Win XPsp2, IE6, and Firefox. Problem surfaced before Firefox was installed.
Have been to the file association download page and ran 'File folder'
association .zip.
Also, had problem with .exe files not opening but was able to fix it from
same download page. Problem first showed after running RegCleaner (Jouni
Vuorio)
and stupidly removing files that had an 'NA' in thier description. The
result was at first not being able to open .exe files. I tried to associate
'restore' from within windows and think that may be why I'm getting these odd
results now.
I used a link from one of your forums to re-associate 'restore' and although
it worked, it erased all of the restore points that were stored!
Further, I am able to open files if I goto C: > 'explore', then use the drop
down list. Please help, Thanx.

For the 1st part (Search companion opens when you double-click a folder), read below:

This problem occurs when you alter the "Drive" / "File Folders" entries via File Types dialog, to add a "Command Prompt here" or "Print Directory" feature for folders. (example)

Click Start/Run and type this command to fix this problem:
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

To fix this manually via registry:

If this problem is seen for Drives:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
Set (default) to "none" (without ")

If this problem is seen for folders:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell]
Set (default) to "none" (without ")
