I have files from ancient times on floppy disks that used
Double Space to compress the files. Now, I have XP as my
operating system. How can I retrieve my double space files?
I think they were created using Windows 95, but I don't
know that for sure.

Doug;
You will most likely need to use the same application that compressed
them to uncompress.

You'll have to use an older PC to get the files.

You can't read doublespaced diskettes on WIndows XP. The only
thing you can do is try to find an old Windows 95 computer with
Doublespace on it, read them there, and copy the files to
standard uncompressed diskettes.

If the data is really something you need and you don't mind a
little effort you can download the 45-day trial of Microsoft
Virtual PC and if you have your original 95/98 install disk,
create a VPC on it.

By using your floppy drive and the 9X OS you should be able
to decompress them. However, be careful as a VPC that has a
NIC (Network) card is exposed to all the normal threats on the
Internet. Probably either a 95B or 98 2nd edition install on the
VPC should be able to access the diskettes.
