double copies in Add/Remove Programs

I've found several duplicates of programs in the Add/Remove Programs list.
Why is this? Is there any way to know if one can be safely deleted? In each
instance, only the first listing has the 'Change/Remove' button, and none of
them have a file size given.

This utility may help--but I would read the page very carefully before
starting!

Information on the necessary steps, which includes editing of the registry,
can be found under "Using the Add and Remove applet" entry here:

In either case, I would make a complete backup of your registry before
starting. ERUNT (http://www.larshederer.homepage.t-online.de/erunt/) is my
preferred tool for doing this.
