DOS

I have the I386 directory on my XP system but I cannot
use any of the DOS functions.

They look like this:

xcopy.ex_

How can I install/deflate/use the dos command on an XP
system ?

Ron is correct. The i386 directory is the installation files, not the
installed directory.
As far as what you access to would depend on where you're trying to use them
from (i.e. dos prompt, booted from a floppy, booted from cd to restore
console, etc....)
