Dos quit printing yesterday

No error reported
Command prompt using either print or type file name>lpt1
returns to c: prompt without printing.
Windows program "Edit" also will not print.
Test page from printer setup or web page will print.
Windows XP Pro SP2 installed.
Printer is a old dot matrix.
Any ideas?

Thank you. I have already tried using both the share and a
redirect via the net use command without sucess. The
redirect via "net use lpt1" resulted in a looping print
job. that neither printed nor cleared. The computer had to
be rebooted.
This printer had been working up until 2 days ago.
User claimes no downloads from the internet.
User does not have e-mail enabled.
Norton Anti-virus is current and full system scan reports no virus.
Printer has been "reinstalled" in windows.
Print directly to printer {bypass spooler} was selected.
With the spooler job window open, no print job appears
when attermpting to print from a "command prompt" window.
HELP
