DOS programs

I have a DOS program that I use often but I can’t run it on XP Pro. In DOS the buffers and files had to be set above 40 and inWin. 98 FCBs had to be set. I can run stand-alone DOS programs but this one runs subroutines. Is there a way to run these old DOS programs?

If you have a need to run dos applications on a regular basis , consider
running a duel boot with Win 98 and XP . XP is not dos based and you will
have problems running any thing that is based on dos. Jym

I have XP on my laptop and am able to trick it into running on there.
If I decide to, how do I dual boot

Load Win 98 on first partition , load XP on second partition. Choose which
one to operate on bootup. Jym

Yes. These files are in the c:\windows\system32 folder. They are the
"default" settings used when launching a command prompt.

As long as the DOS program doesn't try to write directly to resources
(primarily hardware) that XP protects, then it should work ok.

However, not all DOS programs work on XP. Many do. Consider speaking
with the developers of the DOS application to get an XP version, or get
them to make an XP version.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
