DOS printing in Windows XP

When a print job send from a DOS application, a pause of
15 to 20 seconds will occur, which does not happen in
Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 or
Windows NT. Any suggestions? Thanks...

Don't use DOS apps with XP, it was not created to be used
with obsolete operating systems.

This is not good advice. Regardless of what it was created for,
many DOS apps work just fine with Windows XP. Nobody should be
bullied into replacing an app that works unless it's necessary to
do so. Although the original poster didn't specify what app he's
asking about, it's far from true that all DOS apps work poorly
under XP.
