A DOS application that worked well in Windows 95, 98 & ME
does not run well inl XP. Connection is made, but
response is slow and choppy. Need Help !

Hi, Sheila.

As you probably know, WinXP (on the NT platform) deals with hardware quite
differently from Win9x/ME, which were built on the MS-DOS platform.
However, unless the DOS application bypasses the operating system and talks
directly to the hardware, it should run fine under WinXP. I don't have many
DOS programs left, but the ones I have run in WinXP's "DOS" window just like
they did in true MS-DOS.

If the DOS app required some settings in config.sys (like Files=), you may
be able to use the config.nt file to run the app under WinXP.

If you mention the name of the app, somebody here might recognize it and
give you some good advice. You say that "Connections is made"; is this a
communication program?

RC,

How about Autocad Release 12 for Dos ? It used the Pharlap dos extender
(whatever that means) and runs great in dos 6.2 but everyone says it won't
run in a Windows environment.
