As you probably know, WinXP (on the NT platform) deals with hardware quite
differently from Win9x/ME, which were built on the MS-DOS platform.
However, unless the DOS application bypasses the operating system and talks
directly to the hardware, it should run fine under WinXP. I don't have many
DOS programs left, but the ones I have run in WinXP's "DOS" window just like
they did in true MS-DOS.
If the DOS app required some settings in config.sys (like Files=), you may
be able to use the config.nt file to run the app under WinXP.
If you mention the name of the app, somebody here might recognize it and
give you some good advice. You say that "Connections is made"; is this a
communication program?
