I installed Windows XP. Then I installed Windows XP. Shouldn't I have a
bootup menu for selection of which operating system to boot into at startup?

Problem could be related to fact that shortly after installation I had
inadvertently mangled the 'boot.ini' file so that it now no longer has a
reference to Windows ME. What is the exact line that has been deleted?

well, first of all, i need to know what you mean by "i installed xp, then i
installed xp." that doesn't make sense. did you install windows me then xp?
if so, that is the correct order. and yes, if you mangled the boot.ini file,
then that is probably your issue. i can post the line you need, but i need
to know if you installed the OSes in different partitions and what order and
so forth.
