I am using frontpage2002 on yahoo. I was doing great with publishing to my
site. i was gone for only 3 weeks and before i decided to start upload my
catalog i went back through my site to make sure all the links and wording
was right. i found some mistakes and then tried to upload...ya right! my
extensions were broke. recal the site, then had to delete everything on the
site. then went to upload and now i can't. i either get a borders error or it
says the file doesn't exsist on yahoo to where i'm publishing..
I've talked to yahoo (joke) they don't know much....

Could what i have been told about frontpage true? is it a bad program?

is there anyone out there that is on yahoo using frontpage?
if i move to a microsoft site are there alot of problems dealing with
uploading?

It sounds more like a problem with your host. Do you have the ability to
reinstall or run a health-check on the server extensions for your account?
Or do Yahoo have to do it?

It sounds like Yahoo's the trouble, not Frontpage - their lack of support
(or at least, support & knowledge of Frontpage specifically), doesn't help,
(as you've so "elegantly" put it).

It might be time you found a host that supports Frontpage and is generally
well-versed in the problems that might come up.

Remember you need to publish by Http: in Frontpage where the server
extensions are being used.

*What* exactly, have you been told about Frontpage to reach the conclusion
that it's a "bad program"?

FrontPage is not a bad program. Everyone has their preferences and some
individuals prefer to snub FrontPage because it's features aren't the same
as their "professional" program or that FP was designed so that it's easy to
use (well, mostly).

Usually errors like this are caused by the host, specifically security
permissions that won't let FP create directories or files correctly. Yahoo
may also have developed their own version of the extensions based on a
lightweight version of the extensions that MS made possible for the special
needs of various companies that do customized hosting.

Hope this helps,

Trust us it's the host, yahoo is particulary not very good with fpse. Try
another host where you will get support more features and pay less.
1and1.com in the usa is well spoken of .. if you don't want to pay much try
http://web-mania.com/ £20 a year for non-euro citzitens £23.50 if so.

To make do in the meantime see if you can reinstall extensions and wipe the
server and publish in full once more.... try tripod a free fpse host that
will reassure you it's not fp. I don't know where you bought your domain
from, if it was yahoo I'd move it from there too namecheap.com is a very
good domain host .. never have your domain host and site host in the same
place.

thank you guys for the information.

**(why I asked if frontpage was a bad program) is i have had people go to my
site and ask why i have a frontpage logo (saying that's how i made the site)
i have had about 10 people say it's junk because of the extra steps i have to
do to build pages..

i am very new to developing. i know every one has a program they love (it's
like cars)...i feel that what's a couple of extra steps? There is no such
thing as a perfect program.....

thanks again for the help!!!

Actually you don't need to do any extra steps to make pages in FrontPage
it's as easy or as hard as you want it to be .. a friend of mine works in
html view and never leaves it! .. She types in all her code .. the only fp
thing she uses is FrontPage includes.

However I would remove the logo, it's not really cool to have one (for any
editor).

what extra steps do you think you have to do to make pages?

Why isn't a good idea to put the logo up?

because you get numptys coming by and sending you stupid emails about the
fact your using fp and then they point out all their preconceived solutions
as to why you should not be using it ...

the other reason is, it's eye candy ... it's not needed .. it's like using a
hit counter .. no use at all....

and finally it's just naff.

The same applies to validation logos and anything else similar.

? why would the fp logo say that you made it and not a designer?

There are numpty designers out there that would put this logo on a site (and
a hit counter) .... so that does not tell anyone you made the site...

however what does tell people you made the site ... is the fact that you say
you did....
in varies ways...

First in the about page ....

say a little about yourself ... and then why you decided to start the site
.... something about the subject and perhaps your learning processes as you
have progressed (and update as you go along) ...

copyright to you (your name) ....

contact webmistress (i prefer webmaster (I'm a girl) myself though... with
your name....

brand yourself enough... and people will soon realise who made what....

if all else fails ... put a line at the bottom .... This site was made by
and your name....

does that help?:)
