Don't even have a "My Network" button on my start page!!

Tim Miller

I'm trying to network five computers on a Home Network.
Three comps. are running XPpro, One is running XPhome,
and the other is running ME. My internet host comp. is
running XPpro. I have run the Small Home Office Wizard
on all comps. and the only thing that is running right is
the internet. I have right clicked drives and files and
selected them to share with no resolve. One of my comps
doesn't even have a My Network button on the start menu
(it's running XPpro). I get a message that says "Mshome
is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the administrator of this
server to find out if you have access permissions. / The
list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available."
Where the heck do I start!!

Hi Tim
Try this link to start troubleshooting
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308007
See part entitled "Troubleshooting file and print sharing"
Disable any firewalls including ICF when troubleshooting.

For My Network
Right click Start and choose Properties. Select Start Menu
Click Customize then choose the Advanced tab.
Scroll down and put a check in My Network Places and click OK and again OK.

"My internet host comp. is running XPpro."
I assume you're using ICS.
With 5 machines, may I suggest you get a router/residential gateway?
Makes things "simpler" and more secure... just a thought.

Happy Independence Day!
