Domain vs workgroup logon

Question: I currently run a Windows NT (small business server) network with
a few new XP users. If I
have the XP users log into the domain, they are all lumped together with no
apparent way of separating them into their respective groups, ie accounting,
HR, etc. If, however, I have them log into their specific workgroup, then
they can be sorted accordingly. Is there a way to have the XP users log into
the domain and still be able to be separated? Thanks for any info...

No idea what you're trying to say. There is no logging into workgroups as
workgroups don't have any security mechanisms. There is nothing that would
control workgroup security (ie DC.). What do you mean by *separating
users*?

You did npt specify Home/Pro. Since you mention domain and logging onto it
which you can not do with Home, I assume you are using Pro. The operating
system does not make any difference. Just add their user accounts to the
appropriate groups on the domain controller in server manager or whatever NT
uses. --- Steve

We have a rather full lack of common terminology here.
When login is with a domain account, that account will
have whatever memberships it has (due to groups it was
placed into). It does not matter what machine was used
for login nor the operation system version of that domain
member machine.

When it is possible to log in at a machine with a domain
account, there is no such thing as a workgroup possible
(for that machine).

Jeff,

When you state " they are all lumped together with no apparent way of
separating them into their respective groups", where are you seeing this
grouping?
