What is the difference between a workgroup and a domain?

I have set up workgroups numerous times and I understand how they basically
work, but I don't understand when one would set up a domain? What are the
advantages etc. Any advice or if someone could point me towards a site that
explains the diiferences, I would greatly appreciate it.

A domain is used to centrally manage workstations. You must have a
server operating system running to create a domain. Generally speaking,
if the company has more than 10 computers, you would want a domain. Here
are some links to help you understand domains:

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_tutorials/Networking-Basics-Part5.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Server_domain
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsserver/default.mspx

I got the first two links by doing a Google search for "what is a
Windows domain". Microsoft TechNet has a wealth of information aimed at
the IT professional.
