Domain server says time difference between client and server

There are two win2k domain servers in a small network,
data_s1 and data_s2, with active directory installed.
data_s1 is the operations master. Everyday when we login
at data_s1, we get a message 'there is a time difference
between the client and server'. I have tried several 'net
time' commands as suggested by the timeservice whitepaper.
Disabled time synchronization, since there is no other
time source from which data_s1 could synchronize. Still
the same error re-appears.

data_s1 has the following registry (W32Time\Parameters)
settings:

ReliableTimeSource = 1
Period = SpecialSkew
LocalNTP = 1
Type = NoSync

Please help. Thanks, Roy

Does this small network have access to the Internet. If so you can
sync to the US Navy time servers by following this article:

216734 How to Configure an Authoritative Time Server in Windows 2000
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=216734

If there is no Internet connectivity then the setting of LocalNTP = 1
is fine on the PDC FSMO role holder, but the other DC should popint
to data_s1 as the authoritative time server.

Hi Tom,

Thanks... There is no connection to the Internet and
regarding the other DC, it has been set to sync with the
PDC.

Thanks, Roy

Hi Roy,

Try adding these setting to data_s2.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\Parameter
s

REG_SZ NtpServer : Set this to the DNS name or IP address of
the NTP server (PDC) to synchronize from.

REG_SZ Type : Nt5DS

These setting are covered in:

223184 Registry Entries for the W32Time Service

Hi guys,

I have went through the procedure as indicated in the knowledge base article 22314
to set the registry as noted below
I still cannot log on - same error message about time difference. What else can I do ? I need to get logged on.
Also - why is this happening all of a sudden, this is not a new PC and nothing has changed recently (at least that I am aware of but I am not the use of this machine, just the techy to fix the problems !)

Please help... thanks, shack
