domain name

can you change the name of a domain in ADS after the
directory has been in use for a year or so. If so how.

Also, the name of the internal domain is the same as the
companies external (internet) domain name. This causes a
problem when users need to access the company web site
which is hosted externally. Example, the AD domain name
is company.com, the internet domain name is also
company.com, so from inside the intranet you cannot access
the company website because the local DNS cannot see
www.company.com on the internet.

There are many ifs and buts but a process of sorts can be found here.

This is an easy problem to solve. You must create external resource records
manually on your internal DNS server. So in your case you would create a
Host record of www on your internal DNS server that resolves to the external
IP address of the web site.
