domain name not matching

My 2003 Domain is named mlp.com...all nodes joined
successfully to mlp.com domain, however, when logging in,
in the domain list, i see the NETBIOS name of mlp and not
mlp.com. Is it normal that the DNS Domain name is not
available, or is there a DNS setting i missed? Please
advise.

That's normal.
You can log on using either of these formats:

Traditional way, uses domain's NetBIOS name:

User: Ron
Password: *******
Domain: HOMENET

or:

Using UPN, which contains the domain's DNS name:

User: (e-mail address removed)
Password: *******
Domain : <greyed out>

Thanks for the info. Just out of curiosity, is it
possible to have the .com suffix appear under the list of
domains? I have worked on several sites where this was
possible, but I cannot duplicate. Or is this just a
Windows 2003 server thing?

I've never seen that in the Domain box.
I've only ever seen the boxes contain what I described.
( I use XP clients on 2003 domains. )

But I don't claim to have seen everything :)
