Can somebody help us with this error. After upgrading to
W2K Domain, we get this error when we try to add domain
user acct into local administrator group "Processing of
object abc failed with the following error. The specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted"
The domain is listed as xzy.com after the upgrade. Thanks.

Make sure DNS works correct this means the client can resolve the Full AD
DNS name by FQDN.

Thank you for your reply. But we are able to login to the
domain. What areas do I need to check to make sure the
client can resolve the name? Thanks.

Ping the name like

Ping company.com

Start -> Run !type! cmd !press enter!
!in the appearing black window type! ping company.com

and see if you get response.

Have you configure your clients with TCP/IP Settings DNS and point to the
Windows Server Domain Controller running the AD integrated DNS Zone?

Thanks Chris.
When I pinged company.com, I got Unknown host company.com
error. The DNS is AD integrated, the client is w2k pro
and also DHCP Client. However, I was able to ping
company.com from a w2k Server with static ip address.

Sorry if I didn't point you should replace the company.com with your
organizations name.

Chris,
I did and that was the error I recived. Also the WINS are
not replicating. The error was "The conection was aborted
by the remote WINS. Remote WINS may not be configured to
replicate with server. (Event ID 4102) But I did
configure replication between the two WINS. Any help will
be appriciated. Thanks.

Hi,

Please run an ipconfig /all command from the command prompt and note
what your IP address and netmask are. Also note what the DNS servers
are given as. Default gateway might be of interest too.

Cheers,
