Domain Controller Failure

My PC is running Windows 2000 Professional. The PC is
used at home but it used to be a part of a network at work.
The domain controller appears to have failed and it no
longer allows me access and control of my domain. Is
there a way to disable this since I no longer need the
domain controller anyway? Right now, I am locked out of
any changes because I do not have administrator rights and
I do not know what the administrator password was when
this PC was part of the network. Please help.

You will need to logon with a 'local' administrator account. This will not
require any domain authentication.

If you do not have a local administrators password then that makes it more
difficult.

There have been some other threads on recovering a lost administrator
password and these people have been directed to this site:
http://www.jsiinc.com/SUBD/tip1900/rh1984.htm

I've never tried this myself, so I can't attest to the ease of use or
success rate.

Once you are able to logon as a local administrator, you can put the system
into a Workgroup instead of the Domain (this might take a few minutes as it
will try to connect the old domain first.)

Good luck!
