Hi. I have received my copy of the
XP home that I ordered. I won't get my
hard drive until next week.

Thing is, I am studying for my MCTS 70-620,
installing and upgrading Vista. Well, I figure that
if I am going to be able to support that in the future,
that I should do it, like the book says.

I also need to have a good copy of XP for work.
I have another box with XP on it, but the fan for the CPU
has hard failed, and I need to replace it. Don't want to burn up
my back up machine.

I have heard that the WGA system is down. Will this affect
my abilities to properly install XP, or is it a Vista only
issue?

One good side effect of all of this is that when I do the
dual boot dual drive system, it'll be installed as
Microsoft has specified is best, and shouldn't cause any issues,
like restore points.

I might be out of here for a couple days until I get
things straight. Started a new job today, and am on
a perm schedule starting next week.

Wish me (c)luck.

WGA is not down. Who told you that foolish nonsense?

I never found WGA to be necessary for an installation of XP.

WPA, yes, WGA, no.

Well, installed XP, and performance is good, but
screens, etc, are blech.

Comparing performce to XP in my old pc, well,
it's phenominal. But is on a par with Vista.

Vista is a much nicer environment. OE
bites.

Looking foreward to doing my own clean Vista
install. I think performance will improve somewhat
now that I understand it a little better, and know what
and what not to do. I'll let you know how
it goes.

Unless you want to update anything. Anyways, it's working.

My installs of XP are completely up-to-date through Auto Updates. I
don't have IE7, WMP11 or Defenseless but who in hell would want to put
that crap on a computer?
