Does XP Pro have either timed wake-up or timed turn-on commands? Need to
know because I'd like to put together a windows palm w/ "go2mypc" as the
remote control, but at certain time I'd need my pc on in the morning.

Thx if anyone can help.

Jerry;
Since the computer would be off, Windows can not do that.
However some motherboard BIOS have that capability.
Check your motherboard/computer manual and/or contact the manufacturer for
details.

Unless they wanted to start a service or an application or something -
Scheduled Tasks just are not going to do what they asked. *smile*

OK, I'm convinced that there is no auto wake-up from this thread. Guess I'll
have to leave computer on w/ internet on throughout nite so whence 5am comes
I can "usually connect" (baring something went awry w/ connection). But my
next slight concern is leaving the HD running throughout nite for mostly
nothing wears it dow over the many months ahead during such continual usage,
and when I tried the timed feature to have it go dormant, the only thing that
I could get timed dormant in this vane is the screen, not the HD because it
has a SCSI controller card that is a HD go between MB and it, thus no
dormant-shut-down (???) Boy, trying to work toward solution makes me worry I
might have not right one for task I need???

Unless you have some really shotty HDDs - running them continuously
shouldn't harm them as much as you seem to think (you mention months - I
have machines that other than power outages have ran continuously for 7+
years.)

A low-tech solution.
Buy a 5$ AC timer. Connect it to your computer, program it to turn on at 5am
and off at 11:40pm.
You can always schedule your PC to power off at, let say, 11:30pm, just in
case you forget to turn it off manually.
But your BIOS has to have an option to turn computer on AC power on.

I agree with Shenan. Unless you have terrible HDDs, your computer should last
if you have them on for long periods of time. For example: there is a Staples
store about 10 minutes away from me, so, that is the one I usually go to if I
need something they carry. Sometimes, I use their computer to look up
inventory so I am not searching for something that isn't there. One time,
just out of curosity, I pressed CTRL+ALT+DEL. It was an old machine, running
Windows NT 4.0, and had been on and connected to the Staples store network
for 6 1/2 years. Trust me, your computer should be allright.
