Does wordpad.exe have a read-only option?

I am starting WordPad using the "wordpad" command in a Cygwin session
and sometimes want to start it in read-only mode so that the user can
not accidentally edit the file. Does wordpad.exe have a read-only
option? I would like to see a list of its start-up options.

AFAIK, Wordpad supports the /p switch (print) only. And if there was a
"read-only switch", it could be bypassed easily by starting Wordpad via
the old "Write.exe" stub. Why don't you simply set the Read-Only file
attribute on those files and/or documents that you want to protect.

Thanks. It is not convenient to do the latter. What they will be
looking at is typically a program log or output listing that they have
just created. I want them to be able to browse it but not be able to
edit it by mistake. If Wordpad could have been started up in read-only
mode then it would have been perfect.

Yes, but that doesn't help Roland's (OP) problem of launching WordPad
(in a Cywin session), now does it?

sometimes it is easier
utilizing a tool that is
read only, like a viewer

instead of wasting time
trying to second guess
the software engineers
that developed wordpad

and second guess what
configuration the user
has.

so my solution is the
best solution for the user.

its quick and easy and
done with.

besides, why comment on
my suggestion when you
might provide one of your
own towards the solution?

(rhetorically speaking)

It still doesn't help Roland's (OP) problem of launching WordPad (in a

I agree your comments
still don't help the o.p.'s
problem.

perhaps, you might suggest
to change the attributes of
the wordpad files to "read
only".
