Does Windows Explorer require to connect internet in order to function properly?

Is it necessary to give a permission to Windows Explorer (XP home ed.) so
that it connect to internet? Talking about Zone Alarm. Zone Alarm alerts me
and asks me if I should give permission to connect to internet. Does
Windows Explorer require it to function normally?
Although I do not give, it seems working OK.

Hi unistat

This newsgroup is about Microsoft Access the database, so we are not experts
in Zone Alarm.

Denying Windows Explorer access to the internet will have no bad side
effects that I am aware of. Naturally you won't be able to type an Internet
URL into the Address bar of Windows Explorer to view the page in Internet
Explorer.
