Does Windows Backup Span CDRs?

I have people with 2GB Outlook PSTs. I want them to be able to back
these up. Unfortunately network space is a premium right now and, even
if I had it, people would abuse this. I want to put the burden on them
to backup their own PSTs. Does the Windows XP "Windows Backup" program
support spanning multiple CDRs (writable CDs)? I know it does for
floppies but need to know if it works for CDRs. Anyone done this?

Windows XP Backup does not have the capability to span multiple CDs
(record from one to another) during a backup operation. When using
Windows XP Backup, the total size of the backup file must not exceed
the formatted capacity of the CD (approximately 533MB). If you need to
backup an entire drive or a system volume exceeding 533 MB, you need
to use a third party backup and restore program designed to span the file
over multiple CDs.

You'll need a third-party CD Recording program, such as Nero,
in order to record and span the backup file to multiple CDs.

Ah - the Great Corporate challenge, how to archive thousands of jokes
and cartoons. Set them up with Auto Archive on a fixed schedule. Also
have them run scanpst.exe to ensure the integrity of the .PST is OK. It's
also a good idea after archiving to run the Compress function on the mail
store as well. Letting mailbox stores get that large is an invitation to it
becoming corrupted. Some AV's don't scan internally the .PST files so
it's good to run something that does, like Panda ActiveScan or TMicro
that both have on-line scan settings specifically for mailboxes

No. In point of fact, WinXP's NTBackup does not recognize CDRs or
CDRWs as valid backup media. By design, it will only write back-ups to
tape drives or another physical or logical hard drive. Many people
back-up to a spare hard drive, and then burn the resulting file to a CD,
as a work-around. Another option, of course, is to use a 3rd party
backup solution.
