Many users in this office like to use the Outlook Preview Pane. We have been
told that it will increase out chances of opening an attachment that may be a
virus.

We have firewalls, virus scan softwar installed on all computers, but we are
still concerned?

What do you think?

Thanks,

Sam

As long as the Preview Pane is configured as a Restricted Zone, you'll be OK.

Select the Security tab from the Tools -Options dialog and make sure your Security Zones is set to Restricted sites.

Listen to your office partners. If more people did maybe these 41KB viruses I get en mass would someday
stop. Actually Preview won't open the attachment. That takes direct user behavior; ie double-clicking.

Yes, that is how these misperceptions propagate. Someone at a company is infected with a virus because they couldn't resist double-clicking on the "J-Lo Nude" attachment, but they're too embarrassed to admit they double-clicked the attachment. So instead, they insist all they did was preview it.

Just reading the posts and I have an additional question on the same topic...

What about the Tools > Other > Preview Pane > Mark messages read in preview
window? OR Mark items as read when selection changes?

Any way to manage these items from the admin side?

Thanks..LE

Both can be managed as user preference or group policy settings.
