Photos and MS word files which were present before re installation? if the
files remain there is there any chance that an infection will also be still
there? thanks
Re-installation of XP can occur in the following:
1) Re-install on top of the installed version. This will replace
"damaged" Windows XP files and should keep all your files intact.
This is usually known as a "repair reinstall" and may retain the
"infection."
2) Clean install. This will remove the installed version of XP and
re-install XP. You loose all files and settings.
3) Recovery CD. Each PC manufacturer develops there own recovery
system and depending on the option, the recovery cd may do a
"clear"/"restore" of XP and/or "repair" recovery.
As with any of these methods, BACK UP yor files!!! It is never
guarrantied the your files will ever be safe from "erasure" during any
of the re-install methods.
