does pst file hold my Notes and Contacts info?

Already posted separate msg in this group aboout how switching laptops
and moving .pst file results in missing Contacts, Notes, and Calendar
information. All I have is the emails.

Does the pst file hold such info? If so, is there another way to get it
out?

Both laptops were using fully patched Outlook 2003.

This makes no sense at all.

thanks.

Yes. The PST file should hold all of your Outlook information.

Were you, perhaps, using the folder list view on the old laptop and the mail
view on the new laptop?

From what I've done in the past, there are a couple of ways to do this. One
way is to import (or copy it to the new computer and have Outlook point to it
instead of the default file) the one giant pst file that typically resides in
C:\Documents and Settings\useraccount\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook, where useraccount is the user account logged on the
computer. This file can be be hundreds of megabytes in size because it
contains the Inbox, Sent Items, Calendar, etc. as well as all the subfolders
you created. The entire structure is retained so this is probably the best
way. The second method is to export each item (Inbox, Sent Items, Calendar,
etc.) to their own pst files and then import them one at a time. This could
lead to mistakes and more work. It'll also take longer.

Look at the top of the Navigation Pane at the left. Does it say "Mail".
That's why. You've told Outlook to show you only mail folders. Click the
"Folder List" button at the bottom of the pane.

So now I ran scanpst.exe and it says it found errors, and I corrected
them.

Next I ran File->Import->Import from another program->Personal Folder
File and then I get to a window that says "select the folder to import
from". Problem is that none of the folders I want are in this list,
only says "personal folders" and has some saved emails that I had.

Where are contacts, calendar, and notes? Shouldn't they be appearing in
this list?

thanks again.

Do NOT import. You will lose data. Use File>Open>Outlook Data File.

All,

I'm now convinced that my pst doesn't have Contacts, Calendar, and
Notes in it. I was using an exchange server, and the data must have
been saved on the server side.

The pst I'm trying to import only has personal folder, which was stored
on the client side.
