Does Promise Ultra 133 IDE controller provide/enable write caching?

When my hard drive is connected to the Promise card, 'Enable write caching'
is checked but greyed out in Device Manager. Does that mean that write
caching is being used, just not available as an option - since the Promise
card is controlling the drive?

Yes.

With the Ultra Series (non-RAID) controllers hard disk caching is on but is
not user-configurable. On most of their recent RAID controllers this
usually can be adjusted via the PAM software.
