could someone explain to me how microsoft can charge 10
dollars for a cd(Windows XP Service Pack 1a CD) to fix
the problems that their programmers caused or missed when
writing the code? this is disappointing but not
surprising. what is to stop them from missing these fixes
in the first place to make money from the cd? sure you
can download it for free, but time is money and i don't
have 5 hours to wait for the download. if i could afford
5 hours to waste like that then i could probably afford a
cable connection. just wondering..

Find a friend on cable?)

What is wrong with your sofa? If shopping, wait until after the Super Bowl.

Great idea if my service provider didn't kick me off the
internet after being idle for 10 or 15 minutes. the point
of the message wasn't so much the download time as it was
microsoft charging me to fix their problems. thanks for
the reply.

Thanks for the reply and the shopping tip. nothing is
wrong with my sofa, i was just wondering why mr. gates
insists on bilking me for every penny to include the
change that may have fallen in between the cushions of my
sofa. as far as finding a friend with cable... i just
moved to a new state last week and i don't know anyone
here. sad.. i know. i guess i'll just download one or two
updates at a time and steam over it some more. thanks
again for your reply,
jon

Check your settings here: IE/Tools/Internet
Options/Connections/Settings/Advanced:
Disconnect idle time.....

Good luck, Jon.

Windows Update supports "resume functions" so set your
dial-up connection to redial if the connection is dropped,
also set your connection to never auto-disconnect... and
then go to bed. It should all be finished in the morning.

BTW, Mr. Gates has to pay all those thousands of people who
write, produce and package the products., He also has to
FedEx, UPS and the Post Office to deliver the stuff.

XP service pack downloads just continue where you left off, I shut my
computer down and next time I logged on it just continues where it
left off, and it just worked in the background, occasionally an icon
appeared in the system tray to let me know the percentage left to
download, but I had to hover my mouse over the icon to get this info.

It realy was not a problem, I thought all windows XP OS functioned in
this way!

Good luck, Bod

PS. Sorry I can't help you with the Microshaft question :)
