Does Archive MOVE or COPY emails

I'm running XP Home and Outlook 2002. My Outlook.pst is over 600 MB. I
haven't been using auto archive but now want to use it to reduce the size of
this file for faster loading. I've tried auto archive and manual archive.
In either case the date and folder rules apply for making the archive.pst
file, but they also remain in the Outlook.pst file as well. Specifically I'm
worried about emails in sub-folders of my Inbox. Is this what archive is
supposed to do? How do I get Outlook to move the files from Outlook.pst to
Archive.pst? Thanks.

To archive means to remove an item from one store and place it in another one, in other words, to move. Archiving works on the modified date of the item, so it may take a while for it to affect your existing data.

You always have the option of moving items manually.
