Does anyone know if Alpha Centauri works on XP?

I tried to install Sid Meyers Alpha Centauri on XP home. I got the patch
that's supposed to allow it to work on 2000 and XP and I get an error
message that my CPU is not supported, The readme says that I may get that
message if I have an AMD cpu, but I don't. My specs below.

Hey Colin
Try the following, on your C drive open Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid
Meiers' Alpha Cetauri.
Open the Alpha Centauri.ini File contained in this folder and change
ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0 to
ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1 (in the preferences section)
Save the change you have made and then try running the game.
