Steve

Hi,

In my vain attempts to get a network going (WinXP host,
WinME client), I have hit another Glitch!

On the XP PC, I go into the set up a home network wizard.
Go through the Options (selecting Other > No Internet) and
the icons appear (something moving from the Left to Right
of screen).

Then I get an error saying Cannot complete Setup, try
again with different options or Setup the network manually!

Other problem(s) I am getting is in the Network Connection
properties.

I have got File and Printer sharing installed, but I
cannot go into the properties! (On a fix I found I needed
to do this)

Also, when clicking on the Advanced tab to check the XP
firewall status, it tells me about WMI being corrupt or
something like that! I tried the system restore but
nothing changed.

I have used a router which enables me to see both PC's and
share files. Each PC can be pinged from the other, but I
cannot connect to play games :(

Phew! I never knew networking would be so hard!

Has anyone else suffered anything like these? How do I
fix things to work? I only wanna play Tiger Woods 2004
and kick me mates butts !)

Cheers for any help, (psychiatric included)
Steve.

Hello Steve,

The best, cheapest and quickest way to fix this problem
and get done within an hour:
- Boot to the WinXP CD
- Select Repair and follow other screen instructions.
- After it Reboots and when you get to the Desktop, go to
the Windows Update Site and download them again.

If you would like to correspond further, I have created a
temporary email address you can contact me at and I have
images that would show more details about how to do this:

Sincerely,

Craig,

Thanks for the response.

I have considered re-installing windows, but I do not have
an actual XP disk. Just a System restore disk that came
with the package when I bought the PC.

I am worried about using the disk in case it formats my
hard drive?

Also, would the disk have a restore facility?

Thanks for the email address, but I do not have the
internet at home and can't use the companies email system.

Any advice is appreciated,
Steve.

While im on the subject, the XP computer sometimes 'hangs'
on boot up when the Network cable is attached. I cant
open the start menu.

I have to CTRL-ALT-DEL and stop the svchost.exe Local
Service process!

Is this related?

Steve.
