Dumb question -- help! Recently upgraded to XP from 98,
but how the heck do I open 98 documents now? Document
contents are all garbled as the only options in XP are
Notepad and Wordpad. Thanks.

Your problem has nothing to do with "98 documents" or XP vs 98.
The documents you are concerned about were apparently written by
an application program such as Microsoft Word, and you apparently
don't have that application installed.

You didn't say what kind of documents they were. If they're word documents,
you need to reinstall the Office suite.

No you don't - WordPad will open Word documents.
