DOCUMENTS short cut on the start menu

Is there a way to remove the DOCUMENTS short cut from the start menu - I
know TweakUI(?) did it in XP.

TIA

Hello,

- Right-click the Start orb, and click properties
- Click the customize button
- In the list, under Documents, click Don't display this item
- Click OK
- Click OK

I neglected to mention I was using the CLASSIC MENU - however, as long as I
have a drive full of new beta Windows and Office - I might as well go with
the new start menu - I deleted a bunch of things off the new menu and will
go from there - thanks again

Bill--

If you want to continue using Classic, you can regedit it off.

Open your registry and find the key below.
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoSMMyDocs'
set the value to equal '1' to enable the restriction.

*Registry Settings to use*:

User Key:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
System Key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]
Value Name: NoSMMyDocs
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disable restriction, 1 = enable restriction)

Chad,

Thanks for your reply:

"[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\
Explorer]"
I got this far - there were still many more folders - I stopped

"[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\

"NoSMMyDocs"
Did a search and found a folder with this name - in it was one entry:
Default - REG_SZ - Value not set
This folder was found at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Start
Menu\Start Menu\Start Panel\My Docs\Policy

I changed the value of Default - REG_SZ - Value not set to 1 - did nothing
I added a new entry - Default - REG_DWORD - value = 1
changed the REG_SZ value back to no value set - did nothing

Decided I had fooled around with the registry all I was going to at this
point.

While I can get to programs faster in the CLASSIS menu, I like the quicker
shutdown/restart feature in the Vista menu.
Thank you again for your efforts in the matter.

Bill
