Document window will not maximize in applications

I am having a problem with the indiviidual windows in an
application not maximizing. For instance, when I am in MS
Excel, when I click to maximize a document to full size
within the application, the window will not fill out to
the title bar and instead the border around the document
window remains.

I have searched the web and only found one reference to
this problem

?threadid=3280) and the solution does not work for me.
The link contains some screen shots that might be helpful
to look at.

Can anyone help with this annoyance? I do not believe I
changed any settings or installed any applications that
could have affected this.

Try dragging the edge of the document instead of maximising.
