Docs won't open "because a dialog box is open."

All of a sudden, when I try to open word documents I get the error message
"the command cannot be performed because a dialog box is open." I've never
seen this before. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

If you're using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the
Office Plugin that comes with it. See

Why would this suddenly occur after years running Norton with no problem?

You had better ask Symantec who make this application, as the problem came
with an update a year or so back.
