Docmd.TransferSpreadsheet imports text fields in wrong format

I am importing an Excel file into Access using Docmd.Transfer spreadsheet.

One of my fields in Access is set up as text. The data in Excel for this
column is formatted as text.
However, some are Numeric in Excel formatted as text and others are text in
excel.

For example

ST5000 <------ Imports correctly
5337098 <-------- Displays as 1.10011e+006 or something similar in access

Is it possible to format this in access? the data is displaying, but in the
wrong number format.
